Abstract |
Surgical resection is the primary treatment for primary hyperparathyroidism, and historically, bilateral exploration was the preferred approach. However, advancements in imaging technologies, including ultrasound, CT, MIBI scan, and Choline PET, have improved lesion localization accuracy, resulting in the increased utilization of minimally invasive parathyroidectomy. Intraoperative parathyroid hormone measurement (IOPTH) serves as a crucial tool for evaluating treatment outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism. IOPTH measurement is conducted during parathyroidectomy to confirm appropriate gland removal and assess the postoperative function of the remaining glands. Therefore, IOPTH measurement is a valuable tool for evaluating the effectiveness of parathyroidectomy and predicting treatment outcomes. This report presents a successful case of the accurate removal of a parathyroid lesion through IOPTH measurement in a patient undergoing surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism, with a review of the relevant literature. |
